Our client is a highly regarded 3-bed children’s residential home, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment for children aged 10 to 17 with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). Currently, our client support two young people, helping them to grow, develop, and achieve positive outcomes.

Our client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Deputy Manager to join the team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people and is looking to progress their career in residential childcare. The successful candidate will undergo a development pathway over 6-8 months to then take on the role of Registered Manager for the home, allowing the current Manager to step up to an Operational role.

 

As Deputy Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Registered Manager in the smooth and effective operation of the home. Your responsibilities will include assisting with regulatory inspections (Regulation 44), attending professional meetings, and ensuring the home is prepared for Ofsted inspections. You will work 37.5 hours per week, across five days between Monday and Sunday, with flexible hours arranged in agreement with the Manager.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulation 44 Inspections: Support the Manager in preparing for and participating in Regulation 44 visits, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and providing evidence of high-quality care.
  • Professional Meetings: Represent the home in daily meetings with external professionals, including social workers, education providers, and health services, advocating for the needs and best interests of our young people.
  • Ofsted Inspections: Assist in preparing the home for Ofsted inspections, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and the home is operating at its best.
  • Leadership & Team Support: Lead and motivate the staff team, providing guidance and supervision to ensure a consistent, child-centred approach to care.
  • Child-Centred Care: Oversee the development and implementation of individualised care plans, ensuring they meet the emotional, educational, and social needs of the young people.
  • Staff Development: Participate in the training and development of staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Crisis Management: Provide hands-on support during challenging situations, helping staff to implement therapeutic responses to behaviours.
  • Pathway to Registered Manager: Engage in a developmental pathway designed to support your progression to a Registered Manager role within the organization.

 

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a residential childcare setting, specifically with children and young people with EBD.
  • Experience in supporting the management of Regulation 44 inspections, professional meetings, and Ofsted inspections.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour and crisis situations effectively.

Desirable:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services, or willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • Previous experience in a Deputy Manager role or similar.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
